Downy weighed just 46 pounds when she began her journey with Saving Souls Pet Alliance and was immediately placed on a starvation protocol. At her first veterinary visit, the Animal Medical Center of Wyoming discovered she was severely anemic, septic, and suffering from pyometra—a life-threatening uterine infection.
Before she could undergo the emergency hysterectomy needed to save her life, Downy required blood transfusions and intensive medical care. Thanks to the compassion and quick action of the team at the Emergency Animal Hospital on Plainfield, she was able to stabilize overnight in preparation for surgery the following morning.
With the expertise of the surgical team at CSNIP, this brave girl made it through surgery and began her long road to recovery. She received medicated baths to heal her wounds and followed a carefully monitored diet to safely regain weight after years of neglect.
In just a few short weeks, Downy began to transform. She gained weight, her skin improved, and her spirit started to shine. Her foster family has fallen in love with her—building her a wardrobe of her own and soaking up every snuggle, especially with her foster brother.
Downy may have been neglected and discarded before Saving Souls Pet Alliance stepped in, but her story is a powerful reminder: every dog is worthy of love, healing, and a life filled with comfort and care. She is—and always has been—a treasure.
