Spring and summer bring warmer weather, longer days, and unfortunately, an overwhelming number of homeless kittens. Known as “kitten season,” this time of year sees a dramatic increase in cat births, putting tremendous pressure on animal shelters and rescue organizations.
At Saving Souls Pet Alliance, we have already taken in or served 50 cats and kittens this spring and summer alone. Behind every number is a life that needed help—a newborn litter found outdoors, a pregnant stray, or a family struggling to care for unexpected kittens.
While adorable kittens capture our hearts, the reality is that cat overpopulation remains a serious issue. A single unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce dozens, even hundreds, of kittens over time. Without enough homes available, many cats face homelessness, illness, hunger, and other hardships.
The most effective way to reduce cat overpopulation is through spaying and neutering.
